Driver Shot and Injured on I-295 in SJ
June 22, 2021
Multiple shots were fired out of a dark-colored sedan driving northbound on I-295 in Bellmawr, New Jersey on Sunday afternoon. One of those bullets hit another driver in the hand.
The victim, a 42-year old driver, who is hospitalized, has been speaking to police but did not have the license plate of the car the gun was being fired from.
New Jersey State Police are searching for the car and driver. The case is under investigation. Motive for the gunshots is not known.
A driver or passenger shooting at other cars on the road is an extreme example of irresponsible driving, regardless of what the motive was for the shooting. This type of behavior is often referred to by road safety advocates as road rage.
Road rage can start with something as common as a driver being cut off by another car; or rude or offensive gestures from another driver; or anything that may be perceived as a personal insult by the offended driver.
Drivers who are injured or have vehicle damage due to a road rage incident should first pull over to a safe area out of traffic, if they can, then:
- Call 9-1-1. This will get police to the scene which will start an investigation into the incident and an accident report, which insurance companies or courts will need for the case. If the license plate and make and model of the car are known, provide them to police. That call will also trigger emergency medical services and transport to the nearest hospital.
- Call the auto insurance company. This will start the claims process for the accident.
- Call a South Jersey car accident lawyer. Incidents stemming from road rage deserve the legal expertise and investigative skills of an attorney. Victims deserve financial compensation that covers their needs as they recuperate.
