Off-Duty Corrections Officer Hit in Stopped Car off Route 55, Dies

An off-duty corrections officer was killed Sunday when another car slammed into his stopped car, on the shoulder of Route 55 in Vineland.
The corrections officer, a 25-year old from Pittsgrove Township, was traveling northbound when he stopped, according to a New Jersey State Police spokesman. His car was struck in the rear, by another northbound car, driven by a 27-year old Lansdale, PA man, just after 7:30 p.m.
The married father of two, who worked at Camden County Juvenile Detention Center, was pronounced dead at a hospital and the driver who crashed into him suffered serious injuries and is hospitalized.
The crash remains under investigation and no charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday.
